The U.S. Army Weight and Balance Program uses a combination of slides (about 200), hands on exercises, videos, and workbooks for the attendees over a four day course.

The Weight and Balance Training Course is a four-day (DoD) 24-hour instructional program. This training is designed for personnel already acquainted with Weight and Balance or are Airframe and Powerplant Mechanics using DoD standards.

The program is divided into two phases:

  • Phase 1: Principals of Weight and Balance. During this phase, students are taught principles and management of the weight and balance system to include developing a hand computed solution.
  • Phase 2: Use of the Automated Weight and Balance System (AWBS). In this phase, students weigh an aircraft and compute the various solutions using AWBS.

Upon completion the attendee will receive a certificate of completion and be certified in meeting Army requirements. References that are used include the Joint Service Manual TM-1500-342 T/O 1-1B-50/NAVAIR 01-1B-50, Aircraft Weight, and Balance as well as other unique publications that are service organization driven.
